Achieving Proper Golf Stance – 5 Steps

Having a good golf swing and making solid contact with the ball depends highly on your balance and posture when you are preparing to make a hit. You should be in the correct position before you swing and throughout the entire swing, up to the follow-through, to make sure that you do things right.

Here are the steps to achieving the proper golf stance:

1. Stand perfectly straight, with your feet together and place your club up in front of you.

2. Angle your body and bend forward at your hips slightly and hang your hands down. Don’t put them out.

3. After which, your knees should be bent a little, not forgetting to maintain the balance at your feet.

4. Keep this position but adjust forward and backward, until your clubface is directly in line with the middle of your golf ball. Do this without changing your stance. Your feet should be shoulder-width apart.

5. If you are using a short iron, the golf ball should be in line with the point between your two feet. If you’re using longer irons, the ball should be infront of your feet’s center.

It would be helpful to practice with different types and lengths of iron to determine which is more comfortable for you to use and which one will allow you to be at your best performance.

Practice your stance every chance you get, because perfection at this part will help practicing for the more complicated shots easier.

Having a chart to track your progress would definitely be an advantage. Better yet, get yourself a golfing partner so you two can compare and correct each others’ moves.

Golfing is not a sport for the weak, as most people might think. It requires a lot of discipline, mental skills, focus and practice. So, for the non-golfers out there, before you judge this sport, think again.

The Proper Golf Stance

There are many factors that determine the end result of your golf shot, your stance is the start of your swing and having a good stance will lead to great success. The entire shot is determined by the way you setup. There are three main elements that comprise the proper golf stance: grip, stance, and body placement. Your grip must be firm with hands in their proper places. The stance is crucial to making your weight shift correctly. The golfers’ body placement must be comfortable, with all elements in their proper places. The proper golf starting position allows for the perfect golf shot.

The backside of the left hand should be placed even with the end of the club. The right hand should be directly below the left with the left-hand thumb facing down the shaft and the right-hand thumb must be wrapped around the grip facing left(for a right-hand player). Next lock the right pinky finger with the left index finger, turning you hands into a single unit. The golfer should have a comfortable soft grip. A common analogy is to hold the club like you would a bird, tight enough so it could not fly away but not so tight that you could kill it.

The next crucial element is the stance. Your feet should be shoulder-width apart and parallel with the ground. The players’ weight should be on the inside of the right foot and knee. Hold the club in the middle of your stance. The club head should rest gently on the ground, centered approximately 18 inches in front of your toes. Allow the club head to lay centered behind the golf ball so it dose not touch or move it.

The final element of the setup is proper body placement. The knees should be bent slightly, the same posture that they will be in if the golfer sits on a bar chair. Watching the golf ball at all times is a crucial factor in golf (don’t look up to early).

Setting up the perfect golf shot is like a space shuttle preparing for a launch. The space fight depends on every detail of the launch setup. The launch will be waved off if one element is not perfect, to avoid a disasters crash. This is equally true of your golf shot. If your golf shot is not set up properly, you will have a disastrous shank (missed hit). Proper setup of the golf stance will afford any golfer a good platform from which to launch the perfect golf shot, thus enabling greater enjoyment of the game of golf.

If you are unfamiliar with how the posture should be you may want to have a golf instructor evaluate your posture while you take a few swings. Try not to grip the club too tightly and use the muscles in your legs and trunk when you swing for the ball.

Help With Golf Swing – The Proper Grip For a Golf Club

Hey guys, welcome to Help With Golf Swing articles. I am going to discuss a topic that I have caught myself overlooking. We will briefly talk about how to properly grip a golf club.

I was out on the golf course a couple of days ago playing with my usually partner and his wife. I am not sure why, but I have just assumed people know how to grip the golf club, which I am inaccurate on that though. I noticed that my golf buddies wife wasn’t quite holding the club right. As a result, her wrist were not working correctly. What is cool is, after about 10 minutes with her, she was playing like a pro! Well, not a pro, but much, much better! Let me share with you the steps that we took, and maybe you can benefit as well.

To begin, I would like to share why a correct golf grip is important. The proper golf grip is going to give you 3 distinct advantage.

1.) The grip controls the face position of the club at impact. A correct grip gives you a better chance at hitting the golf ball straighter.

2.) If you place your hands correctly on the club, you can be a powerful golfer. This is your only physical connection between the golf club and you.

3.) During the course of the swing, the club travels about 30+ feet. You need to keep your eye on the ball while this motion is going on. Proper grip here will let you feel where the club is exactly. You need this for proper shots.

Now, to perfect the grip. Assuming you a right handed golfer…

1.) Hold the club about 3 feet in the air in front of your body. Not open, not closed. But squared.

2.) Place the club at an angle through the fingers of the left hand. The club should touch the base of the little finger and just above the first joint of the index finger.

3.) Place your left thumb toward the back side of the shaft.

4.) With the left hand grip completed: (the left thumb should be at a 1:00 position) (b.you should be able to see the knuckles of the index and middle finger in the address position) (c.the thumb and forefinger V should point between your right shoulder and right ear.)

Now, let’s add the right hand to the grip.

1.) Place the club in the fingers of your right hand at angle.

2.) You will want to position the club handle so it touches the dots.

3.) This locates the club handle between Section 1 & 2 of the right ring finger, directly on Section 2 of the middle finger, and between Section 2 & 3 of the index finger.

4.) The left-hand thumb and the right hand lifeline area (palm) should be touching.

Add these grips together and you are good to go. Make sure you don’t squeeze the mess out of the club, rather a slightly firm grip. Goodluck!
